Here are some answers to frequently asked questions about assisted living developments; a few of the more common assisted living FAQ’s are answered here.
The most commonly asked of all assisted living FAQ’s is, is assisted living the right option for me (or my parents)? This will depend on a number of factors, but primarily the degree of support that an older person feels that they need. Assisted living developments provide help with cleaning and laundry, and provide dining facilities, and whilst there are regular visits from medical staff (and emergency medical care if necessary) this may not be sufficient for some older adults, particularly those who are mostly frail or vulnerable. For them, it may be that a nursing home would be more suitable.
Another set of common assisted living FAQ’s surround the different types of assisted living developments available. These vary in size from schemes housing over a hundred residents to those with only a handful, and it will be a matter of personal taste which you prefer. Larger assisted living developments will often offer more in the way of services for residents, not least a wide range of social activities, which smaller schemes may not do.
The third and perhaps most frequently asked question about assisted living for seniors relates to cost. The simple fact is that assisted living is almost always significantly cheaper than the charges for nursing homes – usually around 70% of the cost. As such, for older citizens seeking support with their daily lives without sacrificing their independence, assisted living is often a superior alternative.
